Trails Near You
Dear someone looking for places to wheel,
First things first, there are no legal places to offroad with in 30 miles of the city of rochester. Infact there is only about 1 place that we have found to wheel on with in 2 hours of the city. So with that said a lazy afternoon ride is going to be difficult to pull together with out tresspassing on private property without permission.
Ok now that we have the warnings out of the way lets get to the tricks. Trick 1) Get a road atlas and look for the Seasonal Roads on the map. They are dotted lines. These roads are not maintained in the winter and rarely maintained in the summer. You can drive on them all you want for the most part. Trick 2) Find a friend that has land and will let you drive on it. This is really the only way you can avoid the legal issues of driving on land that you don't have permission to drive on.
You would think that you can drive on any state land. But the law is that there has to be a sign that give you permission to drive a motor vehicle in that area. If you don't see a sign you can't drive there.
This is probably discouraging you from trail riding a little but these are the facts. One of the places that we go allot is paragon adventure park http://www.paragonap.com in PA. It's about 4 hours from rochester and there are trails that trucks from stock to modified can have fun with.
If you plan on getting off the beaten path to far get a toe strap and some sort of recovery gear so if you get stuck you can have a friend pull you out. Remember to wheel in pairs and or 3 vehicles.
